Meet Fjords, Our Feel-Good Furniture

At McElheran's we are always shopping for new furniture lines to bring in for our discerning customers. Not just any lines will do. If I had to put a number on it I would guess that we only choose to bring in about 2% of the lines that we look at. To make it to our showroom, something really has to impress us.

This past furniture market we found one of the 2% in Fjords, a fabulous recliner line unlike anything we have carried in the past.

As soon as you sit on a Fjord’s recliner, you’ll feel the difference.

Fjords was started in Sykkylven Norway by brothers Otto and Mindor Hjellegjerde (thankfully they named their company Fjords and not Hjelladjerdes). Since 1941 they have been producing comfortable quality furniture based on good craftsmanship and Norwegian design.

All of that sounds good, but it wasn't until I sat in their recliners that I was sold.

Each model is available in multiple colours and two different sizes to fit your best.

Here’s what makes a Fjord’s recliner feel so good.

Ergonomic Comfort

Comfort is not a luxury, it is essential to your health and general well-being!

It’s important for your body to be truly comfortable; this means that the chair you choose needs to be more than just a soft place to sit.

An ergonomically correct chair will provide continuous support and comfort and this will prevent your legs and back from becoming tired. Such a chair will relax your body, enabling your blood to circulate more freely. As your back relaxes, your spine is gently supported in the right places and at the correct angle.

Technical Advantages

Leather, Textiles, Sewing and Upholstering

Fjords’ long experience with complicated furniture products has trained them to optimize durability and comfort. Fjords’ leather and textiles adhere to strict control and testing.

"Comfort is not a luxury, it is essential to your health and general well-being!"

Active Release System™

Fjords recliners have a unique, integrated mechanism providing the best support for the neck. If desired, it can be adjusted further with a single movement in order to optimize your sitting experience.

Springs in the back and seat to optimize comfort

In addition to cold cure moulded foam in the seat and back, Fjords also uses no-sag springs that further enhance comfort.

Steel back and seat design

Fjords main steel structures are constructed in a manner that satisfies their strict quality requirements.

Seat and back with Dacron fibres

A carefully adapted layer of Dacron fibre is inserted between the upholstery and foam in order to provide the back and seat elements with extra softness and improved comfort. Certain models have more or less than others in order to optimize design and comfort.

Cold cure moulded foam in back, seat and armrests

There are considerable differences between block foam and Fjords’ moulded cold cure foam when it comes to the durability of its physical appearance. Block foam tends to lose its suppleness after a few years of everyday use. It becomes softer as time passes.

Fjord’s moulded foam is different. The Polyurethane foam is moulded in casts that have the exact shape of the product. Cast moulded cold cure foam retains its suppleness longer than block moulded foam, adding life to these recliners.

We all buy different chairs for different reasons. There are accent chairs and occasional chairs. Then there’s the chair you sit in for hours. That’s the “feel-good” chair, and that’s why we now carry Fjords.

You deserve ultimate comfort, contemporary style and uncompromising quality. Fjords delivers.
