We began when father and son David and Jeff McElheran opened a small design studio – Origins Fine Furnishings, Fabrics & Floors – on Whyte Avenue in 1994. The shop became a fast favourite for customers seeking quality furniture and accessories at a fair price.
After four years our focus broadened to combine interior design and retail furniture sales. We outgrew the Whyte Avenue location and moved in the current 124th location in 1998, now offering 18,000 sq. feet of gorgeous showrooms on three floors as McElheran's Furniture + Design.
McElheran’s is a happy place, but when the laughter cranks up a notch, you know Kirsti is near. Her extensive background in design is a benefit to McElheran’s at both a client and store level. She loves to hear what a customer is dreaming of, then find perfect pieces to make it a reality. When choosing product lines, Kirsti has a keen eye and helps keep our showroom styled for inspiration. Kirsti’s zest for life is fueled by her family and a sense of adventure. That enthusiasm bubbles over into her work as a Design Guide and client relationships - and it is contagious!
There’s no denying that Shelley has a deep set of design skills. But what really wows us is her ability to engage with customers by asking the right questions. Knowing and understanding her clients guides her process to create rooms people love. What might feel like a design impossibility to some is nothing but a puzzle to be solved for Shelly. Have a small space that needs to be multifunctional? She’s on it! Shelley is always learning something new, expanding her expertise as a Design Guide. We’re so glad she’s on our team.
With a lifestyle-led approach to design, Teresa thoughtfully guides clients through their projects from start to finish. Informed by specialized education and her broad experiences worldwide, Teresa brings supportive expertise to the design process. She’s an unfailingly friendly team member and a determined problem solver. That’s a powerful combination, and we’re so grateful she’s one of us!
If there’s one thing we can expect from Rob, it’s that he always finds a way to do the unexpected. His superpower is the ability to problem-solve with speed, expertise, and a cool head. Not every Delivery Specialist is a Renaissance man, but our Mike sure is. His logistical skills make your delivery a gentle, smooth process. Need a great eye to help place your new piece? Just ask Mike - he’ll help get things settled to perfection. Want to have a fun chat about music, animals, skateboarding or art? Pull up your new chair. Mike rounds out our team with his broad range of talents. We wouldn’t be who we are without him.
Furniture Repair Technician
We’ve got more than one perfectionist on our team, but Chance might be the front runner. We also really need to come up with a new title for him. “Repair” doesn’t do his handiwork justice: artistry, mastery, magic… all accurate and more appropriate descriptors. Delivery and service of your new furniture are no less important than any other step in creating your dream room. Chance keeps our values in play with a talented hand and commitment to excellence.
Accounting / Office Administrator
Every organization should be as lucky enough to have an administrative aficionado - that’s our Danielle. Like all good farm kids, an unshakable work ethic is at her core. Danielle’s ambition is matched only by her helpfulness - and her huge smile. Our office runs impeccably, thanks to Danielle’s patience and attention to detail. An interaction with Danielle lets customers know that yet another McElheran’s staff member is working to create a smooth, exceptional experience.
Founder & General Manager
Do you remember that neighbourhood kid who always set up a lemonade stand on the first sunny day of spring? Jeff was that kid. Sadly, business was on the slow side since he lived on an acreage. Fortunately, bigger business opportunities were in his future. Jeff puts the “General” in Manager, wearing many hats as he leads McElheran’s team. Always ready to help, support and encourage, Jeff’s kind demeanour sets the tone for our company. Seeing staff and customers happily creating beautiful rooms makes Jeff’s day. His endless energy and solid commitment to our customer’s experience do not go unnoticed by customers or staff.
Bookkeeper & Co-Owner
Andrea is kindness personified. While she plays a background role, she's a leader in McElheran’s care and relationship values. Andrea loves nurturing connections inside and outside the store. She and Jeff’s home is a place where friends and family eat, laugh and make memories. On the verge of an empty nest, Andrea, Jeff, and (the dog) can’t wait for the gatherings to begin again. In the meantime, we staffers enjoy every interaction when Andrea walks through the doors to help out.
Showroom Sparkle Specialist
Our Cleaning Angel deserves more time in the spotlight. Tracey keeps our showroom and offices stunning with her quiet-yet-powerful approach, creating a distraction-free experience for our customers and staff. Always ready to help where needed, she is more than a cleaning specialist, but a valued, critical member of McElheran’s team. Her expertise contributes to the overall customer experience, and we couldn’t do what we do without her.
